PacWest Weekly Awards (Feb. 21)
IRVINE, Calif. – Academy of Art baseball powered up during its most recent series against Holy Names in non-conference action by swatting a total of five home runs in just four games, three of which belonged to junior outfielder
Charles Morgan, helping him to be named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week. The award is for games played from Feb. 14-20.
Among the reasons that the Urban Knights were
able to split a non-conference series against fellow PacWest-member Holy Names was the bat of Morgan, as he was a combined 6-for-15 (.400) with six runs scored, five RBI, two walks, a double, and the three dingers while also leading the PacWest in total bases for the week (16). As the leadoff batter, Morgan was a perfect 3-for-3 in
game one of the series, roping his double and scoring once while driving two others in. His only hit of
game two would be a solo blast for his first of the season, and while he was held hitless in game three, Morgan made sure there would be
no HNU comeback in the series finale by launching two more homers in the same game. He is just the fifth Urban Knight to accomplish a multi-homer game, though three of those prevous four instances have come in each of the past three seasons (last:
Noah Daubin; 5/21/21).
Morgan is the first Urban Knight to receive a PacWest weekly award in 2022, the first of his career after having just joined ART U, and he is the first Urban Knight to be tabbed as the Player of the Week since junior infielder
Adam Inouye earned the honor
last season on Mar. 8, 2021.
