TURLOCK, Calif. – Academy of Art women's tennis closed out the month of February on a three-match win streak with a dominant 7-0 victory over Stanislaus State on Saturday at the Warriors' home tennis courts.
The day's action began with sophomores
Sofia Ragona and
Yun "Nicole" Shiau triumphing over Amber Huk and Sylvana Talamantes 6-3 in the top spot then, at the third spot, sophomore
Viktoria Leth and freshman
Erica Hellbe fell to Maya Young and Kate Bolton 6-4 to even up the doubles series. Freshmen
Paulina Alvarez and
Maria Vittoria Casucci finished off a 7-6 tie-breaker win against Annabelle Mulick and Alyssa Tay, giving ART U the point and momentum heading into singles play.
Leth, Shiau, and freshman
Julia Ortega all went right to work, cruising to wins over Tay, Mulick, and Bolton respectively. Leth captured the 6-4, 6-1 result at five, Shiau went 6-3, 6-0 at two, and Ortega surrendered just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at three. Alvarez took down Young 6-1, 6-4 then Hellbe topped Talamantes 6-4, 6-4 as the Urban Knights awaited Ragona's result in the top position. Battling back from the first set, she outlasted Huk 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 to complete the sweep.
