PacWest Weekly Awards (Mar. 28)
IRVINE, Calif. – A strong starting outing from Academy of Art baseball senior right-hander
Collin Carriger, one where he went the distance for the fourth time in 2022 while allowing just one unearned run, led ART U to a victory over UH HIlo in game two of their series last week, and has now captured Carriger his second Pacific West Conference Pitcher of the Week award. The honor is for games played from Mar. 21-27.
Carriger's effort combined with the Urban Knights' hot bats at the dish led to a
winning formula for ART U by a 9-1 final, as Carriger
tossed a full 9.0 innings while allowing just the one unearned run with six strikeouts, marking the sixth time this season that he's recorded at least six strikeouts. It was an effective outing, as Carriger issued just one free pass while needing only 102 pitches to get through all nine frames. Now with a record of 3-5 on the season, the three victories are a new ART U season-best for Carriger, and his season total of 65 strikeouts are third-most in the PacWest.
This marks the second time that Carriger has been tabbed the PacWest Pitcher of the Week, previously earning the award on
Feb. 28 just one day before he was also named the NCBWA West Region Pitcher of the Week, while this is the third total time in his career receiving the honor. Carriger is the first ART U pitcher since
Ben Kaser in 2018 to receive the PacWest Pitcher of the Week award twice in the same season.
