SAN FRANCISCO -- Academy of Art University Athletics has announced
Nick Monroe as its new assistant coach for volleyball. Carrying more than seven years of coaching experience across club and high school levels, Monroe joins Head Coach
Breann Robinson ahead of the Urban Knights' 2022 season.
"I'm thrilled to have Nick join us," Robinson said. "He is extremely passionate about the sport and dedicated to developing his players on and off the court. His work ethic and creativity are unmatched and I'm beyond grateful to have him on board. His experience gained as a player and coach coupled with his hunger to learn and ability to positively impact the people around him make him an amazing fit for our program."
Most recently with Burlingame High School, Monroe headed the girls' volleyball program and guided the team to not only a 26-7 record but a 2021 Central Coast Section Division III Championship as well. The run marked his seventh consecutive time a team he coached appeared in the postseason. Monroe has also been serving as both a head and assistant coach with Rage Westside Volleyball Club since 2015, crossing over with Robinson while there.
Prior to Burlingame, Monroe was an assistant coach with both varsity and junior varsity girls' volleyball at Notre Dame High School in Belmont from 2019-21. The varsity team finished 27-9 overall and was undefeated in 12 league matches in his first year. Monroe also assisted varsity and was JV head coach while at both Miramonte High School (2018) and Monte Vista High School (2015-17), coaching boys' volleyball with the latter. His 2018 squad would finish runners-up to the North Coast Section Division II champions.
"Being a Bay Area native, I've always heard great things about the Academy of Art University and to now be able to say I'm part of the ART U family is something I'm extremely excited about," Monroe said. "I'm looking forward to bringing my passion, dedication, and experiences into the university and entire athletic department. As a coach of the volleyball program, I'm hoping to inspire and develop student-athletes' abilities to perform as exceptional students in the classroom, empowered citizens in their community, and phenomenal athletes on the court."
Alongside his career playing middle blocker/right side for Holy Names from 2010-14, Monroe earned his bachelor's degree in Business with a concentration in Sports Management from HNU.
