KNIGHT WATCH
Among the Pacific West Conference's top five in scoring (68.5 points per game), field goal percentage (.416), and free throw percentage (.700), Academy of Art has looked to a trio of double-digit scorers in sophomore guard
Alba Rovira Ayuso (13.8 points per game, sixth in PacWest), freshman guard
Lucia Revenga (10.3 points per game), and freshman guard
Anna Fornells (10.0 points per game) thus far. Rovira Ayuso is currently first in the conference with both a .467 field goal percentage (21-for-45) and perfect free throw percentage (10-for-10) while adding the team's highest rebounding average (5.8 per contest). Revenga has notched two or more steals in three of her four games, elevating her to third in the conference in steals per game (2.5). Delivering 2.5 triples per game (third in PacWest), freshman guard
Maddie Morrow broke out with five 3-pointers yielding a season-best 15 points versus Stanislaus State on her way to being named Warrior Classic All-Tournament Team.
KNOWING NOMA
After opening the season with an 86-69 loss to Fresno Pacific, Sonoma State has rattled off three consecutive victories, defeating Dominican, Saint Martin's and Western Oregon. The Seawolves, who were picked to finish sixth in the CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll, have three players averaging double figures in the scoring department led by Alli McDonald's 18.3 points per game which has combined with a 10.8 rebounds per game average. Jayme Blackard has provided a nice all-around complement, averaging 14.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 3.0 steals per game. Having met just five times previously including a split of the two most recent clashes, SSU is slightly ahead of ART U 3-2 historically.
IN THE WILD
Facing all of the same teams as Sonoma State, Chico State, who was picked in the fourth spot in the CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll, has gone 2-2 overall with wins over Fresno Pacific (86-52) and Western Oregon (61-56). A balanced scoring attack has featured Zhane Duckett (13.3), Makenzi Laporte (11.8), Brady Huffhines (11.5), and Jordan Allred (11.3) all scoring in double figures with Duckett adding 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.8 steals per contest. The one time the Wildcats and Urban Knights met previously saw Chico State prevail 73-55 back in 2010.
WARRIOR CLASSIC SEES ART U DROP DECISION TO CSUEB
Four members of Academy of Art women's basketball scored in double figures on
Nov. 18 back inside Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena, but it was not enough as Cal State East Bay steadily separated late in the third quarter and early in the fourth to win both teams' final game of the Warrior Classic 81-69.
LOOKING AHEAD
The first two home games for ART U are on the horizon for ART U as Azusa Pacific (Dec. 7) and Chaminade (Dec. 10) will visit the Bay Area for the first PacWest contests of the season.
