Extra-Base Swings Make Grayhorse-Pupecki Player Of Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Closing out the 2023 in emphatic fashion, Academy of Art softball junior utility Cailee Grayhorse-Pupecki homered three times and hit for extra bases five times during a three-game win streak en route to being named PacWest Player of the Week on Monday. The award is for games played from Apr. 24-30.

On the verge of history coming into Senior Day on Apr. 28 versus Dominican, Grayhorse-Pupecki became the program's single-season and career triples leader with in a 1-for-3 effort that included one run scored. It marked the sixth time she had tripled during the year and made her the first Urban Knight to reach double figures with 10 in her career.

On Apr. 29 at Holy Names, the Fashion Design major then went 2-for-4 with both of her hits home runs (one inside-the-park) to join just six other ART U softball student-athletes ever to homer twice in one game, adding three runs batted in and two scored. That was before she homered again in the second game, adding a double, one run batted in, and two runs scored in a 3-for-6 performance that was one triple shy of the cycle. Grayhorse-Pupecki hit .312 (5-for-16) with a total of three home runs, one triple, one double, four runs batted in, and five runs scored across the four-game week.

To end the regular season, Grayhorse-Pupecki ranks 12th in the Pacific West Conference in batting average (.338), is second in triples (6), 10th in doubles (10) as well as home runs (3), and is top 20 in both runs batted in (22) and runs scored (22).

This is the first PacWest weekly honor in Grayhorse-Pupecki's career.
