Close Women's Tennis Match Sealed By Sharks' Clinch, 4-3

AZUSA, Calif. -- In No. 30 Academy of Art tennis' match against the Sharks, the Urban Knights saw multiple victories in the latter half of the afternoon showing, but ART U dropped the contest 4-3 against Hawaii Pacific on Sunday at Azusa Pacific's Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex.

Sophomore Jessica Plazas and freshman Estelle Najean started the day off strong for the Knights, winning their doubles match 6-2 over HPU's Isabel Heupgen and Leonie Mueller on Court 2. In a tough battle on Court 1, Abigail Wild and Jayanne Palma would tie doubles action up as they took their contest against freshman Amelija Supulniece and junior Erica Hellbe with a 6-4 score before HPU took the doubles point shortly after on Court 3.

In singles action, the Sharks would claim the first two matches before Supulniece, ranked No. 55 nationally, prevailed on Court 1 for ART U 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 over Wild for the Knights' first point of the day. While Najean played Palma hard as she forced a third set, HPU would clinch the victory in the match on Court 4. Junior Maria Vittoria Casucci, ranked No. 60 nationally, would officially win her match by retirement 4-6, 7-5, 4-3 on Court 3 over Sara Hejtmankova, as would freshman Georgiana Parr 6-2, 6-7 (7-3), 2-0 on Court 6 versus Lynn Kader.

Following the tough loss, Academy of Art moves to 5-2 overall while Hawaii Pacific improves to 5-3. The Urban Knights will run it back tomorrow at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex against No. 35 Azusa Pacific, starting at 3:30 p.m.
