Women's Hoops Earns Second WBCA Academic Recognition

2023-24 WBCA Academic Team Awards

ATLANTA -- In a Wednesday announcement by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, Academy of Art University women's basketball exemplified the "Be Artist. Be Athlete." mantra as the Urban Knights were awarded Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Team Special Mention for their collective academic success this past year.

Women's Basketball Team"We are extremely proud of the work our student-athletes put in the classroom this past season," said Head Coach Jesse Clark. "I want to thank the faculty we have at Academy of Art University who go above and beyond to ensure all our student-athletes are getting a first-class educational experience. The university creates an atmosphere where learning is at the forefront of their mission and with their help our student-athletes have the support to excel both on the court and in the classroom."

The WBCA's announcement of its Academic Top 25 recognized NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. All teams that qualified for the top 25 rankings with the minimum 3.0 GPA also are recognized for their academic accomplishment. There were a total of 81 NCAA DII teams honored by the WBCA.

Sporting a fresh look with a new coaching staff and many debuting talents, Academy of Art women's basketball spent the 2023-24 season collectively posting a 3.10 GPA as a team while laying an important foundation that featured a series sweep of a Pacific West Conference opponent, big wins over playoff-bound teams late in the year, and postseason distinction for an Urban Knight who shined on the well-balanced squad. To read more about what the Urban Knights achieved this season, click here.

This is the second WBCA academic team recognition for Academy of Art after their first in 2022.
