SAN DIEGO – Academy of Art women's basketball faced Point Loma for the second time in less than one month and Saturday's Pacific West Conference rematch inside Golden Gymnasium went the Sea Lions' way 62-50 despite a third quarter push by the Urban Knights to cut the deficit to just four points.
A 6-0 start by PLNU was slowed by a layup from senior forward/center
Christy Ojide Boiko, but the opening quarter would end with the Sea Lions ahead 14-8. The Sea Lions pushed a 15-point advantage two minutes into the second before a layup by graduate student forward
Claire Ricard sparked an 8-0 ART U response that featured more layups by sophomore guards
Lucia Revenga and
Anna Fornells as well as senior forward
Yasmine Sifaoui.
The waning seconds of the opening half saw Fornells nail a 3-pointer, cutting the margin to 31-21 at halftime. High percentage looks continued in the third quarter as 10 points in the paint were punctuated by a triple from junior guard
Alba Rovira Ayuso to make the score 38-34.
"We tried to stay composed and applied what we learned in the first half to adjust into the second half," Ojide Boiko said.
Eight points separated the teams moving to the fourth, but after Point Loma free throws in the opening minutes, the difference dropped below double digits only briefly the rest of the way as time ran out on an Academy of Art comeback and settled the score at 62-50.

"The team was very much looking forward to competing today," said Head Coach
Jesse Clark. "I was pleased with certain stretches today where the entire group competed in an intentional way."
The Urban Knights move to 7-6 on the season and 1-5 in conference contests with Ojide Boiko's 11 points, five rebounds, three blocks, and two assists leading the way. Redshirt sophomore guard
Karereatua Williams provided nine points, Sifaoui added eight with six rebounds, and Fornells contributed seven points, five rebounds, and two steals. Revenga stuffed the stat sheet with six points, three steals, two blocks, two rebounds, and two assists while freshman forward
Keira Mitchell finished with a season-high 11 rebounds.
Point Loma, 11-3 overall and undefeated through six PacWest matchups, had four score in double figures paced by Tavia Rowell's 15 points.
On the road for the third consecutive game, ART U gets its first look at Jessup on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in Rocklin.
"Our growth moving forward is, when our best is needed, we are able to rise to the occasion," Clark said.
