Contributing both defensively and offensively to multiple wins for Academy of Art softball, sophomore pitcher/utility Kayla Vaughan (4-11) pitched in six of seven games while adding a difference-making hit along the way.
The Illustration major started the week by limiting Chaminade to one run on three hits and four walks while striking out two over 7.0 innings of a 7-1 victory on
Mar. 24 then, in a relief appearance on
Mar. 25, Vaughan returned to toss 4.0 scoreless innings of three-hit ball with one walk and three strikeouts. Following a scoreless inning in the first game of a
Mar. 27 doubleheader hosting Northwest Nazarene, the San Diego native logged another complete game win, holding the Nighthawks to just one run over 7.0 innings (six perfect six innings to start) with one hit, one walk, and five strikeouts to her name. Additionally in that game, Vaughan provided a two-run single in the opening frame, propelling ART U to the eventual 7-1 victory. Ending the week with another triumph in the circle, Vaughan kept Vanguard to two runs on six hits and two walks in another 7.0 innings pitched on
Mar. 29.
Authoring a 1.59 earned run average with 11 strikeouts in 26.1 innings of work, Vaughan moved up into the PacWest lead in complete games (10) while ranking fifth in innings pitched (95.2) and sixth in strikeouts (41).
