Doing it all for Academy of Art softball, sophomore pitcher/utility Kayla Vaughan dominated in the circle and turned in two multi-hit efforts in the batter's box to power the Urban Knights' four-game sweep of Menlo.
The Illustration major came on in relief the first day of the series,
Apr. 11, and tossed 2.2 scoreless innings as ART U rallied to a 4-0 win in the ninth of the opening contest. She then started the second game and proceeded to shut out the Oaks on just six hits and one walk with five strikeouts across a complete 7.0 innings pitched. Building on her second collegiate shutout, Vaughn continued to hold Menlo scoreless through her first 14.2 consecutive innings as she again came on in relief to begin
Apr. 12, denying Menlo more than two hits in 2.0 innings of the series' third game. As Academy of Art finished off the sweep, the sophomore posted another complete 7.0 innings of work, allowing just one run on two hits.
Vaughan finished the week with three wins while posting a 0.37 earned run average, allowing just one run in 18.2 innings of work, with eight strikeouts. She added four hits, two runs scored, one run batted in, and one triple at the plate. Ranking first in the PacWest in complete games, third in innings pitched, and fifth in strikeouts thus far in 2025, the San Diego native has completed 14 of her starts and struck out 58 over 135.0 innings for ART U.
