San Francisco, Calif. -- Going on just two days rest, the AAU men's Soccer team battled the much anticipated Humboldt State University on Wednesday night. The Urban Knights were able to carry the momentum from their previous win over to the start of the Wednesday's game, but were unable to keep that intensity going for the whole match. After a strong first half, the AAU men's soccer team ended up losing to Humboldt State, 3-0.
Facing a tough No. six regionally ranked Lumberjack team, the Urban Knights failed to make much of an impact. The Urban Knights were able to hold the Lumberjacks in the first 45 minutes of play, resulting in a scoreless first half, even though they were outshot by HSU 12-1.
The Lumberjack's had only 10 men on defense for the last 59 minutes of play during the game. They capitalized on their short comings just over two minutes into the second half, when they scored their first goal. AAU goalie Jose Herrera kept up a strong defense, again posting nine saves for his team. Even with this, the Urban Knights were not able to rally, and only managed one shot on goal by Senior Jared Spires.
With the loss, the Urban Knights drop to 2-5-2 on the season. The Men's soccer team has ten days rest before their next game, where they will battle La Sierra University. Be sure to catch the men in action when they return home to San Francisco, CA on Saturday, October 11th(time TBA).
