AAU Lady Knights take down the Lady Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus in 4 sets

SAN FRANCISCO -- Despite being a first-year program, Academy of Art University has many transfers and experienced players including National Junior College player of the year Dan Yang and with every match that passes, the Academy of Art University women's volleyball team improves on parts of the game. Tuesday night, the Urban Knights did more growing as they defeated the very talent young Lady Warrior team.

For the second time in a week, the Urban Knights defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 25-13, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, at UCSF's Bakar Recreation Center.

The first meeting saw the Urban Knights struggling against the young and talented team, which is lead by only one senior and one junior. The Warriors were error prone during their first meeting committing 21 service errors, which allowed AAU to stay in and eventually the game.

Academy of Art University had to work hard to stab off Stanislaus rallies to improve to 10-3 on the night. Cal State Stanislaus on the other hand dropped to 3-11 with the loss to the Urban Knights.

"We played much better today. We took what we were weak on last week and made sure to focus on it to improve today." Said head coach Marcus Young.

Last week, against the same Urban Knights team, Cal State Stanislaus had 21service errors and lost in five sets. The Urban Knights came out with more energy in this meeting. “Last week we had no desire, there was a lot of emotion that impacted the game and the way we played” said Assistant Coach Ali Magner. “Tonight we were out to prove that we are a strong team and that last week was an off night” She added

The Knights did just that lead by sophomore Dan Yang who had another double-digit night of kills finishing with a total of 14. Alex Leja also helped with 13 Digs to go along with her match high 35 assists, Jelena Jakovljevic chipped in with 11 digs to go with her 9 kills. And Both Levalasi Key and Taylor Davis chipped in with 8 kills each.

The Urban Knights also played well in the blocking game, stuffing down a total of 8 attacks. Levalasi Key, picked up 1 solo and 3 assisted blocks while Jelena Jakovljevic added 4 assisted blocks to lead the charge.

The Urban Knights will take on 11-1Sonoma State University tonight. The Seawolves swept #15 Cal State LA in 3 straight sets and #25 Chico State, in 5. The game will be played in Seawolves gym tonight at 7pm.
