AAU Defeated By Silverswords 4-2

The Academy of Art University men's soccer team fell 4-2 to Chaminade University in a physical match at Crocker Amazon Park. Freshman forward Daniel Higa scored his fourth goal of the season at the beginning of the contest and junior midfielder Manuel Padilla netted the second goal off a penalty kick in the final minute. With the loss, the Urban Knights are now 4-8-1 overall and 1-7 in Pacific West Conference play.

The very first shot of the match was an unassisted goal by Higa in the 4th minute to give AAU the early lead. Although Academy of Art stayed on the attack with another shot on goal by sophomore defender Elijah Craig shortly thereafter, the Silverswords would respond with their own unassisted goal by forward defender Miachel Marrs in the 10th minute.

With the scored tied 1-1, sophomore defender Israel Nevarez was assessed a red card for fouling CUH forward Keenan Ho in the box and penalty kick was awarded to Ho. He put the ball past a diving sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Waller and Chaminade was now up 2-1. Two minutes later in the 16th minute, the Silverswords found the back of the net again with a goal by defender Brandon Salvador after the assist from Ho. One final CUH score came in the 43rd minute just before the end of the first half.

In the second period, Academy of Art University attempted numerous times to answer back, but the team was called for offsides four times early on. Various cautions and one red card were issued to Chaminade in the final seven minutes with Marrs taking the red after a foul in the box which resulted in a penalty kick for Padilla. With 11 seconds on the clock, Padilla put the ball past the Silverswords goalie to salvage one more point for AAU.

Padilla led the Knights with three shots in the contest and the one goal. Higa, who also scored, had two shots, both on goal, and senior midfielder Jaime Patino-Calvo added two shots of his own. Time in goal was split between Waller and freshman Ian Sutherland with Waller allowing three goals and registering one save and Sutherland allowing one goal with four saves.

Ho had both a goal and an assist for Chaminade University in the match while the other three goals were scored by Marrs, Salvador, and midfielder Nick Ogata. Goalkeeper Darren Smith played the majority of the minutes between the pipes and allowed one goal with two saves. The final 11 minutes were given to Daniel Dartt who gave up one goal with one save.

In the Urban Knights' Senior Day match on Oct. 17, Academy of Art will face Dominican University at Kezar Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM which will be proceeded by a small senior ceremony for Patino-Calvo.
