Women's Cross Country Bests NDNU In Dual Meet

With the 2009 Pacific West Conference Championships one week away, the Urban Knights competed in a dual meet with Notre Dame de Namur University at Golden Gate Park this afternoon and finished four of their runners in the top four spots. Junior Irinel Zamfir led all runners with a first place finish and a time of 20:26 on the 5k course.

Behind Zamfir in second place overall was sophomore Denisse Correa who crossed the line in just two seconds more (20:28). The third slot went to freshman Stacey Toth who completed the course in 21:35 while junior Monica Anguiano earned a fourth place finish with a time of 23:13. Junior Miranda Wiley came in ninth overall sporting a time of 28:14 to round out the Knights finishers.

As a team, AAU finished over 15 seconds higher than NDNU. Academy of Art had 19 points in total versus the Argonauts' 34 points. With the completion of this meet, Academy of Art University now qualifies for the championship race which will take place next week.

The Pacific West Conference Championships are up next for the Urban Knights on Oct. 31. The meet will also be held at Golden Gate Park with following participating schools: Academy of Art, Notre Dame de Namur, BYU-Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific, Hawaii-Hilo, Chaminade, and Grand Canyon.
