Chaminade Prevails Over AAU 2-0

Box Score

Honolulu
, HI --
The Urban Knights fell behind early to Chaminade University and could not recover en route to a 2-0 loss at St. Louis Field on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman forward Daniel Higa posted a team-high three shots and freshman goalkeeper Ian Sutherland had eight saves for the second consecutive contest, but it was not enough as Academy of Art University drops to 4-12-1 overall and 1-10 in Pacific West Conference play. Chaminade moves to 3-11 overall and 2-9 in the PacWest.

With the 4-2 loss AAU sustained back on Oct. 12 still lingering, the teams would be eager to get on the board early in this match. However, it was the Silverswords who struck first just two minutes into the contest. CUH forward Keenan Ho, who scored in the two teams' earlier match, found the back of the net on the first shot of the game using an assist from midfielder Jensen Takiguchi with 44:33 still left on the clock.

Although Chaminade outshot the Knights 9-5 in the opening half, Academy of Art managed to keep the match close and only trailed 1-0 going into halftime. Unfortunately for AAU, the second period unfolded much like the first in that CUH scored early again. In the 52nd minute, Ho and Takiguchi teamed up for the second time to put the Silverswords up 2-0 with Ho earning the goal.

Sutherland turned in a solid effort for Academy of Art with the eight saves in 90 minutes played, but the two goals he allowed stood up and a red card to junior midfielder Kyle Mannschreck in the final five minutes of the match certainly didn't help the cause. Out of 11 total shots, the Knights had shots on goal by Higa, senior midfielder Jaime Patino-Calvo, and freshman defender Ransom Edgerton.

Chaminade University was led by the performance of Ho who finished with two goals out of three shots on goal and Takiguchi's two assists went along with his one shot on goal. Defender Brandon Salvador led all players with five shots on the day and three Silverswords goalkeepers worked together to keep Academy of Art scoreless.

The third match on AAU's Hawaii roadtrip will match the Knights up with the University of Hawaii – Hilo Vulcans on Friday. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM HST (3:00 PM PST) at Kea'au High School Soccer Field.
