St. George, Utah -- The Academy of Art University women's tennis team served up a decisive victory Friday, March 27 against the Dixie State College Red Storm. The Urban Knights defeated the Red Storm 5-1 in singles and 1-2 in doubles, resulting in a 6-3 win overall. The Urban Knights improve to 5-7 on the year.
Sophomore
Cassy Fabiani played in the #1 slot for singles and defeated Ashley Lafeen 6-4, 6-1.
Fabiani teamed up with freshman
Paola Correa Fe in #1 doubles, beating Alexandria Bergen and Lauren Centrella 8-2.
Sophomore
Laone "Lala" Botshoma handed DSC's Centrella a decisive victory in #2 Singles, defeating Centrella 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets. Botshoma teamed up with freshman
Maria "Belen" Tenorio in #2 doubles but was unable to preserve the win, losing 8-2 to the Red Storm's Lafeen and Rogers.
At #3 singles,
Tenorio fell to Bergen 6-2, 6-3, but
Correa Fe was able to turn things around for the Urban Knights at the #4 slot, defeating Rogers 6-3, 6-4. Senior
Anna Ritchie edged out DSC's Lauren Tarver for the win in the #5 position, while freshman
Cecilia Hedin defeated Nicole Pigott 6-3, 6-2 in #6 singles.
