Box Score

Soquel, CA –
Urban Knight men's soccer put forth a valiant effort Saturday afternoon, but Bethany University defeated ART U 2-0 at Soquel High School. In a match that saw relentless defense from both teams, the Bruins managed goals at the start of each half to gain the advantage. The Knights are now 0-2 on the season while the Bruins move to 1-0.

Six minutes into the opening period, an unassisted goal by Alfredo Martinez came against sophomore goalkeeper Ian Sutherland. Sutherland posted four saves in the match.

Bethany took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break and Academy of Art University responded in the second half by matching the Bruins shot for shot. Freshman midfielder Andrew Durano came through with three attempts in the game including one shot on goal. In the 52nd minute, however, Bethany's Joel Pelton got though the defense and netted a goal to create the 2-0 final score.

Behind Durano's three shots off the bench, freshman forward Grimur Grimsson, a new addition to the team, added two shots in his first action as an Urban Knight.

Head Coach Daniel Rosaia commented on the Knights' effort on the field today and noted the contributions of senior defender Vilmundur Sveinsson and junior defender Elijah Craig in addition to Grimsson.

“The team battled hard today,”Coach Rosaia said. “We just need to finish our chances. Vimmi and Elijah played well out there. Also, Grimur had a nice first game. The team is just trying to find its personality right now.”

ART U men's soccer closes out its non-conference season with a match this Thursday, Sept. 9 against Menlo College. The Knights and Oaks are set for a 4:00 PM kick off at Wunderlich Field in Atherton, CA.
