OPENING SERVE
The Urban Knights are getting their full schedule in, making up a rainout against Cal State Stanislaus before heading to Rohnert Park for a match against Sonoma State. The Knights are coming off a loss to Cal State Los Angeles, but still have a lot of momentum left after their five-game winning before their last two matches.
LET'S TRY THAT AGAIN
The Urban Knights making up this match against Cal State Stanislaus after their originally scheduled date was rained out. The Knights last loss before their five game winning streak earlier this year was against the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus. Since then, ART U has gone 5-2, with an overall score of 44-17. Stanislaus has played two matches since then, falling to Fresno Pacific 5-4 and defeating Sonoma State 8-1. Stanislaus is led by Verena Preikschas, who is ranked No. 5 in the region in singles, while her doubles team, including partner Katie Eng, is ranked No. 4.
JENNY FROM THE BLOCK
Jenny Johansson has continued to rise through the ranks of the Urban Knights tennis program, emerging as one of their best players in the past couple weeks and garnering praise from her coach. Johansson is 8-3 dating back to February 11, and has won six of her last seven, with her only defeat coming in the sweep at the hands of Division I San Jose State. Even in that match, Johansson was the only Urban Knight to push her opponent to three sets, losing in the tie-breaker to Alexis Marquez. In her last matchup against #17 Cal State Los Angeles, Johansson defeated Tiffany Leung 6-3, 6-1 with the rest of both teams looking on at the final match of the day.
SLOWING DOWN THE SEA WOLVES
Lauren Ha has emerged as the primary point-winner for the Sea Wolves, going 13-8 on the season in singles play. Her doubles score, with teammate Sheena Johnson, is also the best on the team, as the pair has gone 10-8, mostly out of the #3 slot. Ha has won her past four matches, and six of the past seven, with her only losses coming from her matchup against #5 Hawaii Pacific and Lea Kruse-Utermann. Johnson started off the year strong, but has faltered of late, going 4-3 over her last seven matches, including two losses in a row against Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Stanislaus.
ON THE DOCKET
The Urban Knights are looking ahead as the season is already in its twilight hours. The PacWest Championship is in less than a month, and the Knights are looking to prepare for that challenge by getting first-hand experience of some of their conference foes, with matches scheduled against Dominican (April 10) and NDNU (April 11), as well as Mills College (April 15) and BYU Hawaii (April 17) before the tournament.
