OPENING SERVE
The Academy of Art women's tennis team continued to impress, maintaining their #8 spot in the region after a 3-0 week last week. Their last matchup was against Winona State, who came into the match with a record of 10-2 but left after the Knights dealt them a 9-0 defeat.
BOBCATS PRESENT ANOTHER D-I CHALLENGE
The Urban Knights will face their second Division I opponent of the season when they host Big Sky Conference member Montana State on Friday.The Bobcats are in the midst of a slide right now, and after winning three of the first four matches have lost five straight. They will face USF on Thursday before taking on the Knights on Friday morning.
KNIGHTS GOING STREAKING
Academy of Art now has two separate six-game winning streaks this year after their win over the Warriors last week. The first one was to start the season, running from February 7 to February 21 before their only loss of the year against Fresno Pacific. The 2013 season has also been marked by the two separate singles winning streaks of Amal Ben El Hadj (12-0) and Jenny Johansson (11-0) so far on the year.
HAWKS STAY GROUNDED
Holy Names is in their first year with a tennis program, and has struggled so far in their inaugural season. They narrowly lost a 5-4 match to Mills College and also picked up three points in a 6-3 loss to Dixie State. Head Coach Scott Howard has a trio of seniors on his team as well as three freshman who are looking for their first victory of the year.
WOUNDED WARRIORS
Cal State Stanislaus is not having the year they had last year, when they finished 9-4. In 2013, they have now lost eight in a row to drop to 1-8, including an 8-1 loss to Academy of Art on February 23. In their last two matches, they played two regionally ranked opponents in Cal State Los Angeles and Fresno Pacific, losing both, and after their match with ART U will head to play Division I UC Davis.
WHAT'S UP NEXT
After the three matches this weekend, the Urban Knights will head into their toughest stretch of the year, playing three teams ranked in front of them both regionally and nationally. They'll play three matches in three days, facing Cal State Los Angeles (#7 in region) on April 4, Azusa Pacific (#6 in region) on April 5, and UC San Diego (#5 in region) on April 6.
