La Jolla, CA -- Facing their second top-20 team of the road trip, the #13 Academy of Art University tennis team handled their business against #17 UC San Diego, taking two out of three doubles and dominating singles play on the way to a 6-3 victory. For the Urban Knights, it was an important victory that secured a winning road trip on a swing that took them through three schools in three days, and moved them to 8-1 on the season.
"The girls showed just how much they want it and the strength they have to win on the road," said head coach Beth Daub. "It was a long weekend but they dug deep to pull of the victory. The team came together and played some great tennis today."
The Knights won the doubles battle once again, as

Jenny Johansson beat Nava Nowamooz & Shannon Theisen 8-4 in second singles and
Michelle Dandik Zaale &
Annika Schneider defeated Tara Vanooteghem & Laura Wilke 8-5.
Nina Gajdosikova &
Daniela Amelunge Antelo battled but fell in the top spot 8-3 to Kyra Scott & Paula Chou. Johansson and Zavarcikova are a perfect 7-0 on the year in second doubles.
In singles play, Scott beat Gajdosikova in the top spot 7-5, 6-1, but Zavarcikova took down Chou 6-4, 6-3 in second singles. The Tritons picked up their other singles victory in the third spot, as Nowamooz beat Dandik Zaale 6-4, 6-0, but the Knights won the final three. Schneider defeated Vanooteghem (6-2, 6-0), Amelunge Antelo defeated Theisen (6-1, 6-0), and Johansson swept away Lisa Asai 6-0, 6-0 to secure the victory. Amelunge Antelo (7-0) and Schneider (9-0) remain undefeated in singles play on the year, with the Knights a stunning 44-9 overall.
"Returning with a solid road trip will help us get ready mentally for our stretch of home matches," said Daub. "We're ready to get back to the practice courts and prepare for our next match."
The Knights will have a lengthy homestand that lasts until April 6, starting with this weekend against Weber State University on Thursday and Dominican University on Sunday.
