San Francisco, CA — The Academy of Art University men's soccer team will look to carry the momentum of a second half offensive explosion, as well as a solid 90-minute defensive effort, from Saturday into this week's road trip to Chico where it will face California Collegiate Athletic Association members Humboldt State and host Chico State.

The Urban Knights (1-1), fresh off a 4-0 victory over CCAA foe Cal State East Bay, will take on Chico State (1-0-1) at 7 p.m. Friday under the lights in their first road match of 2014. Sunday ART U faces Humboldt State (1-1) in an afternoon neutral site contest kicking off at 4 p.m.

The Knights are already a step ahead of last season's non-conference showing against the CCAA when they went 0-2, including a 2-1 home loss to Humboldt State. Saturday's win over Cal State East Bay put Academy of Art University at 2-5 against the CCAA since becoming a full-fledged member of the NCAA in 2012.

ABOUT CHICO STATE
The Wildcats (1-0-1) have started the season unbeaten with a 3-0 win over PacWest member Dominican (Calif.) in their season opener and a 1-1 draw against Great Northwest Athletic Conference member Seattle Pacific, both at home.

Justin Walmsley has been Chico State's top scorer so far with two goals on the only two shots he's taken this season. Akwafei Ajeakwa and Matt Hurlow have also found the back of the net for the Wildcats in the season's first two matches. Goalkeeper Luke Dennison has allowed one goal in 200 minutes minding the net with six saves.

ABOUT HUMBOLDT STATE
This will be the second straight week the Lumberjacks find themselves in Chico after falling 1-0 to Seattle Pacific on Thursday to start the season. HSU followed that up with a 4-0 win on the road at NAIA program William Jessup.

It was Alan Castillo and Braxton Griffin who scored twice each for Humboldt State against the Warriors and lead the team in scoring after the first week. Javier Torres has played 180 minutes in goal for the Lumberjacks in two matches and made seven saves.

MCLELLAN NAMED PACWEST CO-POTW
Junior midfielder Malcolm McLellan had a career performance in the season's opening weekend with six points in two matches. That mark was tied for the PacWest Conference lead and earned him PacWest Co-Player of the Week honors for the effort. McLellan started 17 matches on defense in 2013 and tallied one assist, but in the season opener against Cal State San Bernardino he scored the Urban Knights' only goal and Saturday versus Cal State East Bay he had a career-best four points with a goal and two assists.

ESCOBEDO POSTS A NO-NO
Not only did rookie Academy of Art University goalkeeper Alejandro Escobedo earn his first collegiate victory in his first collegiate start Saturday, he also earned his first collegiate clean sheet, holding Cal State East Bay scoreless for the full 90. Escobedo had plenty of help on defense, as he only faced one shot on goal all game. The shutout victory was the Urban Knights' first since Oct. 26, 2013, at Chaminade (6-0).
