San Francisco, CA — Jon "Jay" Eldon scored twice and Jake Walter added his third goal of the season Saturday as the Academy of Art University men's soccer team evened its PacWest Conference record with a 3-0 victory over Hawaii-Hilo at CCSF.
Â
Eldon and Walter gave the Urban Knights (3-5, 1-1 PacWest) a 2-0 first half lead within a two-minute span. Eldon struck first in the 21st minute on a free kick that was awarded just outside the goalkeeper box following a foul committed by the Vulcans (2-4-1, 0-2 PacWest). The junior midfielder shot high over the wall and into the right side of the net for the 1-0 advantage.
Â
Then 2:03 later Walter made good on a penalty kick after getting fouled in the box, making the score 2-0. Eldon notched his second goal of the afternoon in the 82nd minute on a nearly-identical play. Another free kick was awarded to the Knights just outside the box on the left side and Eldon tucked it into the upper right corner for a 3-0 lead that iced the victory.
Â
The Academy of Art defense was also stout on Saturday in earning its second shutout win of the year. Freshman goalkeeper Alejandro Escobedo made five saves for his second shutout and the back line also made two pivotal team saves to keep the Vulcans off the scoreboard. UHH outshot ART U 21-18.
