SAN FRANCISCO — The No. 11-ranked Academy of Art University women's tennis team will have two Pacific West Conference matches this week. First, they host No. 17 UC San Diego on Friday, then follow that up with a road trip to Turlock to face Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.

The Urban Knights (5-3) moved up one spot in the newly released national rankings to No. 11. They held off surging UC San Diego (11-6) and Azusa Pacific in the most recent West Region Rankings to keep their No. 3 spot. ART U will look to right the ship after it went 1-2 last week in Hawaii, including a tough 5-4 loss at No. 7 Hawaii Pacific.

ABOUT UC SAN DIEGOThe 17th ranked Tritons (11-6) are coming off an exciting win this week against Division III powerhouse, Middlebury. After being tied 4-4, UCSD's nationally ranked star Kyra Scott gave the Tritons a 5-4 lead they wouldn't relinquish. While UCSD is 5-2 this month, they head into the match-up with Art U 2-2 over their last four matches. The Tritons are also 2-2 away from La Jolla.

ABOUT CAL STATE STANISLAUSThe Warriors (2-7) took down PacWest member Hawaii Hilo Wednesday, 8-1, sweeping doubles and the top-three singles positions. The last time they battled the Urban Knights back in late February, they took a 9-0 loss. This time, the Warriors hope to turn their season around at home, where they have found some success. They came away with a 5-4 win against PacWest member Dominican University of California back in February.

BATTLE OF NATIONALLY-RANKED PLAYERSTwo of the very best players in the nation are poised to take part in Friday night's battle between UC San Diego and Academy of Art. UCSD's Kyra Scott is ranked eighth nationally and has dominated singles competition this season going 13-2. Meanwhile, Urban Knights standout
Nina Gajdosikova, has quietly compiled a 5-2 singles record and is currently ranked 48th in the nation.

Annika Schneider is 3-0 on the year and has lost only one set this spring. She took out Hawaii Pacific's Julia Sauer Saturday in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). She also has won every doubles match she's competed in (5-0) including an 8-1 win over Hawaii Pacific with Gajdosikova.

LOOKING AHEADAcademy of Art will take a PacWest road trip next weekend, taking on No. 18 Azusa Pacific and No. 22 Cal State LA down in Southern California. They return the weekend of April 10th to finish their home schedule.
