No. 11 ART U Battles SJSU to End Dual Season

Match Results

SAN JOSE, Calif. —
A strong opponent was exactly what the No. 11 Academy of Art University women's tennis team needed in its final preparation for the postseason, and that's what the Urban Knights got on the road Sunday at No. 56-ranked NCAA Division I member San Jose State as the Spartans won 6-1 at Spartan Courts.

Sunday's match closed the regular season for ART U (11-4), who entered the match having won six straight. San Jose State (12-6) won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and grab a 1-0 lead, then won five of six singles matches.

Junior Annika Schneider was the lone Urban Knight to win Sunday, defeating Jessica Willett in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Senior Jenny Johansson pushed her second set to 7-5 but fell in two sets at No. 4 singles.

Senior Nina Gajdosikova and Schneider won three games at No. 1 doubles before falling 6-3 to Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey. Junior Michelle Dandik Zaale and Johansson did the same at No. 2, losing 6-3 to Willett and Julianna Bacelar.

The Urban Knights travel to Surprise Ariz., as the No. 3 seed for the 2015 Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament beginning Thursday.
