FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – It was a thrilling first match for No. 23 Academy of Art women's tennis (5-4) in its Florida debut, facing off with No. 7 Nova Southeastern (7-1).
Freshmen
Klara Thell-Lenntorp and
Alma Thell-Lenntorp handled the Sharks with an 8-5 victory in second doubles, while senior
Michelle Dandik Zaale and freshman
Paula Alcantara were victorious in third doubles, winning by a score of 8-6. The lone doubles loss for the Urban Knights came when NSU defeated junior
Annika Schneider and freshman
Taisiia Andrieieva, with an 8-3 final score.
ART U entered the singles portion of the match only needing three wins to come away victorious against one of the top programs in the country. Both Lenntorp twins defeated their opponents with Klara finishing 6-3, 6-1, and Alma 6-2, 6-3 in fifth and sixth singles respectively.Â
After Alcantara and Andrieieva both dropped their contests, Schneider was Academy of Art's final competitor on the court. The Heidelberg, Germany native took the first set, but lost the second 1-6 and subsequent third sed 2-6. In the end, it was a well-fought battle between the two schools. With the wins,
Klara Thell-Lenntorp improves to 8-0 in singles and
Alma Thell-Lenntorp moves to 8-1.
