No. 11 Academy of Art vs San Jose State Final Results
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Facing Division I San Jose State, No. 11 Academy of Art women's tennis again found themselves tested to their limits. Facing their second top division opponent of the regular season, the Urban Knights were unable to come away with a point despite three singles matches heading to a third set.
Â
Playing by Division I rules which only grants one point for winning two or more doubles matches, ART U could not pull off a victory in that category. After dropping contests in the second and third positions, the No. 11 sophomores
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp left their match unfinished with a 4-5 score.
Â
The singles portion of the day saw three matches enter into a third set, but were eventually decided by a super tie breaker. In the No. 1 position, sophomore
Monika Stanikova dropped the first set, but won the second 6-3. The match was closely contested in the tiebreaker as well and Stanikova came close, but fell by a score of 10-8. K. Thell-Lenntorp was in third singles on Friday and took the first set with ease by a score of 6-3. However, after falling in the second, Klara couold not pull through in the end, falling 10-4 in the tiebreaker. Sophomore
Paula Alcantara was the third Knight to take things into a decisive, final set. Â After coming from behind to win the second, Alcantara's seven points in the tiebreaker were not enough to overcome her adversary in sixth singles.
Â
Academy of Art will return to action on Sunday, April 2 when they head to Stanisalus State for a noon first serve.Â
