Tennis Earns Fourth Sweep Over DIII UCSC

No. 11 Academy of Art vs Division III UC Santa Cruz Final Results

SAN FRANCISCO – In their final regular season match of 2017, No. 11 Academy of Art women's tennis welcomed in Division III UC Santa Cruz. The Urban Knights were dominant up and down the lineup, dropping a mere four games overall en route to their fourth 9-0 sweep of the season.
 
ART U was nearly perfect in doubles, outscoring their opponents 24-1. Both No. 11 twins Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp and sophomores Monika Stanikova and Paula Alcantara swept their adversaries 8-0 in the first and third positions respectively. In second doubles, senior Annika Schneider and sophomore Taisiia Andrieieva teamed up to take their match by a score of 8-1.
 
Moving into singles, Academy of Art's dominance was relentless. ART U won all six matches in straight sets and three Knights registered 6-0, 6-0 sweeps: K. Thell-Lenntorp in the third position, Alcantara in the fifth-spot and Andrieieva in the sixth. Furthermore, ART U never surrendered more than one game in every set except for one.
 
The Urban Knights will now head to the PacWest Conference Championships in Surprise, Ariz. Matches are set to begin on Wednesday, April 19 and will last until April 22.
