PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Oct. 23)
IRVINE, Calif. – After winning UC San Diego's Triton Classic outright, Academy of Art graduate student
Hasna Kaarour was named Pacific West Conference Runner of the Week for the third time this season. The award was based on meets run Oct. 15-21.
In an
Oct. 20 race that featured No. 7 Chico State, Kaarour was more than two full seconds faster than second-place, finishing first of 121 runners with a 6k lifetime-best of 22:04.5. She posted an average mile time of 5:55.2.
"I was so excited to win this race today in San Diego," said Kaarour. "The course was very hilly so it wasn't easy. In the beginning, I just wanted to have a fast start to have a good position because the trails were very narrow. I was directly ahead and I was so surprised, but I felt very good so I decided to keep the pace and stay ahead. I'm really happy to win the race in this way."
This is the third PacWest weekly honor in Kaarour's career after she was selected twice previously
Sept. 25 and
Sept. 4.
