Men’s Lifetime-Bests Highlight ART U’s Day In Conference Cross-Over

2018 Lewis Conference Cross-Over Results

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Battling nearly 30 teams on both sides, Academy of Art cross country made its second appearance ever in Lewis' Conference Cross-Over on Saturday morning. Graduate student Victor Moreau led the 13th-place Urban Knights with a 12th place individual finish while graduate student Hasna Kaarour's 16th-place result helped ART U finish 15th as a team at the Lewis Cross Country Course.

At the front of the ART U finishers, Moreau claimed 12th overall out of 282 runners with an 8k lifetime-best of 25:01.9. Redshirt junior Rabah Houali and graduate student Freddie Hessian also ran their fastest collegiate races at the 8k distance, going 25th (25:23.8) and 29th (25:28.6) respectively. Redshirt freshman Logan Briner came in at 138th overall with a time of 27:10.4 and freshman Hudson Lockette completed the qualifiers with a 147th-place finish (27:19.1).

The men's race was won by Southern Indiana's Austin Nolan (24:33.8), but it was Western Colorado who earned the team title. Academy of Art was the sixth-highest team from the West Region to finish, taking 13th just behind Cal State San Marcos (11th) and Pitt State (12th), but ahead of Lindenwood (14th), Washburn (15th), and Azusa Pacific (23rd).

A fraction of a second behind Simon Fraser's Olivia Willett, Kaarour finished 16th overall with a time of 22:29.9. Behind Kaarour, senior Giulia McIsaac checked in at 59th overall, offering 23:20.9 mark while redshirt freshman Audrey Rosencrans posted a 23:32.9 time for 69th place. At 125th, senior Ashley Brown came through at 24:19.6 and the fifth finisher for the Knights was redshirt junior Emma Johnson at 139th (24:37.2).

Crossing the finish line first in the women's race was the tandem of Sophie Seward and Alicja Konieczek (21:39) of Western Colorado. That pair combined with Aneta Konieczek also from WCU to guide the Mountaineers to first overall as a team. Academy of Art was the seventh team to finish from the West Region, taking 15th overall behind Tampa (13th) and UC San Diego (14th), but ahead of Indianapolis (16th) and Ferris State (17th).

ART U cross country will have one final regular season meet this month before November brings the PacWest Conference Championships. The meet will take place the morning of Oct. 20 when the Urban Knights travel to San Diego for UC San Diego's Triton Classic.
