No. 10 Academy of Art versus UC Santa Cruz Final Results
SAN FRANCISCO – With just two matches left in the regular season, No. 10 Academy of Art women's tennis was able to dismantle Division III UC Santa Cruz, defeating the Banana Slugs by the score of 6-3.
Â
Playing without ART U's top-ranked doubles team in the region, juniors
Paula Alcantara and
Monika Stanikova seamlessly took over duties in first doubles, defeating their opponent 8-2. Junior
Taisiia Andrieieva and sophomore
Mariacristina Andrisani were equally as strong in the second position as they also took down their adversary by the score of 8-2. The Urban Knights' only doubles loss came in the third position as UCSC took the match 8-6.
Â
Academy of Art was nearly perfect in singles: beyond dropping one match in the fifth position and defaulting another due to lack of players, no ART U player conceded more than two games in any set. Ranked No. 9 in Division II, Stanikova was the first to finish her match, recording a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in first singles. Both Andrisani and Andrieieva only dropped one game each, as they both won their respective matches 6-1, 6-0.
Â
The Urban Knights will return to action on Sunday morning when they host Holy Names.
Please note: the match was previously scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first serve, but it has been moved up to 10:00 a.m. in an attempt to avoid the rain.
