Dominican Invitational Results

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – In their final tournament of the fall, Academy of Art women's tennis competed at the Dominican Invitational, squaring off against host school, Dominican, and Sonoma State. The Urban Knights won 10 total matches, including a sweep in singles on the final day. 

Freshman Julia Ortega and sophomore Sofia Ragona both had very successful tournaments, winning three-of-four matches. Freshman Ella Lynn-Browne saw her first action as an Urban Knight and picked up her first collegiate win on Sunday with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over DUC's Sierra Shackleford.  

ART U came out strong in doubles on the first day with wins from senior Mariacristina Andrisani, Ragona, and freshmen Aitana Comas Adam and Ortega. Andrisani and Ragona blanked DUC's Michelle Li and Taylor Lim 8-0 and Oretega and Comas won their match against Kamar Alajeely and Ofelia Lopez 8-6. In singles on Saturday the Urban Knights took on Sonoma State, who they captured two wins against. Ragona defeated Jenna DeTurk 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 and Ortega took down Amber Huk in back-to-back sets, 6-3, 6-1. 

The Knights dominated singles on the final day, winning all five matches, while surrendering just a single set. Ragona dropped her first set 3-6, then quickly found herself trailing 1-4 in the second set. She turned it around and came all the way back to take the second set 7-5 before clinching the match with a 10-7 victory on the tiebreaker third set. 

After completing the Dominican Invitational, Academy of Art will look ahead to their spring season, starting on Feb. 7 at the Bay Club SF Tennis versus Holy Names.
