2019 NCAA Division II National Championships Results
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In the first NCAA Division II National Championship race of her collegiate career,
Pacific West Conference Runner of the Year graduate student
Hasna Kaarour challenged the country's best and finished 48th overall. Passing 38 other competitors over the second half of the 6k out at Haggin Oaks Golf Course on Saturday morning, Kaarour concluded Academy of Art cross country's 2019 campaign with a personal record.
Through the first mile of the course, the Landscape Architecture major found herself 70th overall out of the 260 runners who would finish. Kaarour was then 86th a little past halfway at the 3.5k mark, but her subsequent move up did not disappoint. Stepping in front of nearly 20 others by 4.3k, Kaarour rose suddenly and, with less than one kilometer to go, she was 56th with her previous 6k record (21:06.99) within reach. The Strasbourg, France native powered through a dramatic finish to claim 48th across the line with a new 6k PR of 21:05.0 in tow.
The 6k race was won by Adams State's Stephanie Cotter (19:15.5) and, with three Grizzlies taking the top three spots, ASU captured its 56th NCAA cross country team title.
Kaarour will return to action for Academy of Art's 2019-20 indoor and outdoor track & field seasons which begin with the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi and GVSU Holiday Open on Dec. 6.
