As the 12th season of Academy of Art University women's basketball tips off this week, the Urban Knights will look to embody the "Grit and Grind" mentality instilled by head coach
Krystle Evans and her staff. This Friday, seven returners and six newcomers join together to embrace their 2019-20 campaign.

The Urban Knights' journey begins in Oregon with contests against Western Oregon and Concordia (Ore.) then covers much of California, Washington, and Hawaii as ART U navigates a 26-game campaign that features two matchups with each of their 11 Pacific West Conference opponents. The Urban Knights' senior class features the trio of guard/forward
Ines Medina, guard
Brianna Cates, and guard
Josselyn Morris who all averaged 26 minutes or more last season. With five double-doubles to lead the team in 2019, Medina offered 9.4 points per game and the PacWest's third-highest rebounds per game average at 8.8 per contest.
Three of the team's transfers are juniors, but one, guard
Tayler Bennett, represents the squad's lone graduate student transfer from Rice. Prior to helping the NCAA Division I Owls go 74-27 over three years, Bennett ranked as one of the top 75 shooting guards in the nation by All-Star Girls Report while at St. Anthony High School. Joining Bennett as new faces are forward
Sankia Braxton from San Joaquin Delta College, guard
Pam Wilmore from New Mexico State, and forward
Elliott Snodgrass from Tacoma College. To read more about ART U's 2019-20 recruiting class,

Returning to fill out the largest junior class since 2014-15 are guard/forward
Lily Perkins, guard
Shyla Miller, and forward
Megan Jefferson. Perkins' breakout 2018-19 debut season with the Urban Knights saw her recognized with
All-PacWest Team Honorable Mention after ranking 10th in the conference in scoring (15.0 points per game) and sixth in steals per game (2.1).
Looking to take steps forward in their young careers, returning guard
Chanel Stuart and incoming forward
Dajaah Lightfoot from Trinity Valley Community College represent ART U's two sophomores while forward
Aari'yanna Sanders (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West) begins 2019-20 as the squad's lone freshman. Stuart, who collected four PacWest weekly honors last season, was the second-leading scorer in the conference among freshman (11.8 points per game) and third overall in steals per game (2.4).
Focused on growth and hard work every day, Academy of Art starts Year 12 this Friday in Oregon.
