PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Feb. 18)
IRVINE, Calif. – After an efficient week highlighted by her sinking the game-winning 3-pointer versus Holy Names, Academy of Art women's basketball freshman guard
Chanel Stuart collected her second PacWest Freshman of the Week honor. The award is based on games between Feb. 11-17.
The Communications & Media Technologies major started the week with 12 points (on 4-of-9 shooting from the field), five rebounds, and three assists in the finale of ART U's Hawaii roadtrip versus Chaminade on
Feb. 12. She then followed that up with her highest point total in her past nine games with 19 points (on 8-of-13 shooting from the field), four assists, and three steals. Most impressive, however, was the buzzer-beating triple she drained to win the
Feb. 17 game hosting Holy Names.
In ART U's two games, Stuart averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting over 54 percent from the field (12-for-22) for the week.
Stuart currently ranks fifth in the PacWest in steals per game (2.3) while adding the 13th-highest rebounds per game average (6.9) in the conference. Her 11.5 points per game scoring average ranks second among freshman in the PacWest.
This is the third PacWest weekly award for Stuart in her career after she was named PacWest Defender of the Week on
Nov. 26 and Co-Freshman of the Week on
Nov. 12.
