Stuart Ends Year With Third PacWest Freshman Weekly Honor

PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Mar. 4)

IRVINE, Calif. – Following a breakout performance that saw her score the most points by an Urban Knight in a single game this season, Academy of Art women's basketball guard Chanel Stuart took home her third PacWest Freshman of the Week honor of the year on Monday. The award is based on games between Feb. 24-Mar. 3.

After opening the week with seven points, four rebounds, three steals, three assists, and one block at No. 23 Azusa Pacific on Feb. 23, Stuart was on absolute fire from long range in ART U's Mar. 2 season finale at Biola. The Communications & Media Technologies major knocked down six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 30 points, making 11-of-19 shots along the way. She added three rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block in her last game as a freshman. The Elk Grove native became the ninth Urban Knight ever to score 30 or more points and joined a group of just five others to make six or more 3-pointers in a single game.

In ART U's two games, Stuart averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game for the week.

Stuart finished the regular season ranked fourth in the PacWest in steals per game (2.4) while adding the 16th-highest rebounds per game average (6.4) in the conference. Her 11.8 points per game scoring average ranked second among freshmen in the PacWest.

This is the fourth PacWest weekly award for Stuart in her career after she was named PacWest Freshman of the Week twice (Nov. 12, Feb. 18) and Defender of the Week once on Nov. 26.
