NCBWA Recognizes Delgadillo, Smith on All-Region Team

2019 NCBWA All-West Region Teams

AZUSA, Calif. --
Academy of Art baseball added two more postseason awards Wednesday morning when the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced their All-West Region teams. Thomas Delgadillo was named All-West Region Second Team as an outfielder while Elijah Smith was given an honorable mention as a second baseman.

Thomas Delgadillo -- All-West Region Second Team
In his first season as an Urban Knight, Delgadillo demolished the ART U single season hits record and led the PacWest in batting average. His incredible .422 average also led the West Region, was 14th best in the nation, and broke the ART U single season batting average by a whopping .071 points. On April 20th, with nine games to play, Delgadillo connected for his 60th knock of the season to break Joseph Marchini's record set in 2015. Delgadillo went on to collect a total of 73 hits, breaking the previous record by 14 and solidifying his record as one of the most unbreakable records in the ART U books. This is Delgadillo's second All-West Region award this postseason.

Elijah Smith -- All-West Region Honorable Mention
Senior infielder Elijah Smith's first All-West Region honor comes after he hit .363, led the PacWest in doubles (17) and triples (4), broke the single season ART U doubles record, and the career ART U triples record (11). Smith led the team in slugging percentage (.538), was second in runs batted in (30), third in runs scored (29), and had an OPS of .943. This is Smith's second postseason award, as he was named All-PacWest Second Team on May 14.
