Knights Post Numerous Lifetime-Bests At Kim Duyst Invite

2019 Kim Duyst Invitational Results

CERES, Calif. – Having a rare opportunity to run two night races, Academy of Art cross country delivered a strong showing in the Kim Duyst Invitational at River Oaks Golf Course on Saturday night. Graduate student Hasna Kaarour's 6k time was one of three career marks on the women's side and her fourth-place finish led ART U to second as a team. Pacing the men's third-place result, redshirt senior Rabah Houali ran his fastest collegiate 8k and took third individually.

Firmly in the front pack throughout the race, Kaarour ended in fourth overall (second among DII runners) with a time of 21:50.8. Redshirt sophomore Audrey Rosencrans jumped three spots in the second half to follow in seventh overall (fifth among DII runners) with her own career-best 22:14.8. Junior Natalia Novak took 10th (eighth among DII runners) at 22:22.17 while redshirt sophomore Alyssa Winter (23:41.7) and sophomore Jasmine Becker (6k career-best 23:41.7) were just over a second apart, finishing 28th and 29th overall respectively.

As a team, Academy of Art (62) took second overall behind host Stanislaus State (21) and ahead of UC Santa Cruz (74) as well as fellow PacWest competitor Notre Dame de Namur (86). The race was won by Clarissa Morales (20:52.3) running unattached with the official winner Stanislaus State's Devianna Salcedo (21:49.9).

Steadily moving up throughout the race, Houali bettered his previous 8k best (at last year's PacWest Championship) by more than 25 seconds with his third-place 24:46.3. Rising two spots in the final leg, graduate student Charlie Messai claimed seventh (sixth among DII runners) at 25:09.8 while sophomore Hudson Lockette turned in his fastest 8k performance to date (25:40.7) for 21st overall (19 among DII runners). Rounding out the Academy of Art qualifiers, sophomore Markus Anderson Deakin crossed the finish line at 25th overall (25:46.9) and Abdelouakil Mustapha finished in 52nd (27:28.6).

In the team scoring, ART U (91) edged Notre Dame de Namur (92) for third behind Stanislaus State (32) and UC Santa Cruz (45). Like the women's race, the victor, Cristhian Macias (24:40.2), came from the host school.

Next up, the Knights will preview the NCAA DII Nationals course at Sacramento State's Capital Cross Challenge on Sept. 28.
