CONFERENCE BEGINS WITH ARGOS AND COUGARS

After their match against Chico State, Academy of Art moves into PacWest play, starting with Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday. One week later, the Urban Knights will continue PacWest play with a tough No. 4 ranked Azusa Pacific.

KICKOFF
ART U kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. against Notre Dame de Namur and the following Thursday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. against Azusa Pacific. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) and on Twitter & Instagram as well as "Like" the Urban Knights on Facebook for score updates, videos, and recaps.

KNIGHT WATCH
Junior forward Adrian Cekala leads the Urban Knights offense with his two points on one goal. The score came against Stanislaus State on Sept. 8 when he barreled down the sideline, beat a pair of defenders, then perfectly slotted a ball between the Warriors' goalie and the near post. Five matches into the season a pair of Urban Knights have played every minute of every match, junior defender Mykal Mason and sophomore midfielder Edvard Edvarsson. The duo has been critical in keeping ART U in matches, both offensively and defensively. Junior goalkeeper Kris Jensson collected another three saves against Chico State to bring his total to a team leading 18. He is currently ranked fourth in the PacWest in total saves.

ARG-YOU-NAUT ENTERTAINED?
Notre Dame de Namur comes into their game against the Urban Knights with a record of 2-3. The Argonauts started their season with a 2-1 win over San Francisco State and went on to defeat Missouri St. Louis two days later by the same score. Their winning streak was snapped and gave way to a three match losing streak after a 3-0 loss to Cal State LA. Northwest Nazarene shutout the Argos next, by a score of 2-0, and most recently Cal State San Bernardino routed NDNU 5-0. The offense is led by Anthony Andoyan who has collected five points on two goals and one assist. Josh Santillian is the next highest scorer for the Argos, with four points on a pair of goals. NDNU is 11-3-1 all-time against ART U, and won the most recent meeting on Nov. 3, 2018 by a score of 1-0.

HERE COMES THE COUGARS
No. 4 Azusa Pacific is a perfect 5-0 to start their 2019 campaign. The Cougars started the season with a bang, defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills 4-0. Cal State San Marcos gave APU a scare, but they held on for a 2-1 win. The Cougars toughest challenge came when they took on the 2018 CCAA regular season champions, Cal Poly Pomona. The match went into overtime after regulation ended tied 3-3,  but it did not last long, as the Cougars notched their third win of the season with a goal just two minutes into the overtime period. More recently APU took down two PacWest opponents in non-conference matchups, defeating Point Loma 3-1 before winning their fifth straight with a 2-1 victory over Concordia. James Ndubueze is the Cougar's top scorer, with a PacWest leading five goals. He is trailed by David Kwinn who has four goals for eight points. Academy of Art is 2-5 against the Cougars all-time, and lost a close 1-0 battle in their meeting last season.

CHICO STATE DEFEATS ART U WITH STRONG SECOND HALF
In their final match before PacWest play begins, Academy of Art held Chico State scoreless the entire first half, but a pair of goals in the second gave the Wildcats a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon at University Soccer Stadium.

LOOKING AHEAD
After their matches against Notre Dame de Namur and Azusa Pacific, Academy of Art will look ahead to hosting Concordia on Oct. 10 and traveling to Southern California to take on Biola on Oct. 17.
