PacWest Weekly Awards (Nov. 27)
IRVINE, Calif. – Over her first two games in the
Academy of Art women's basketball starting lineup, freshman forward/center
Alisha Wilson showed an impressive defensive prowess and was ultimately named Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week. Wilson averaged 5.0 blocks and 6.0 defensive rebounds per game and remains among the PacWest's top two in both blocks and rebounds per game. The award is for games played from Nov. 22-28.
A truly memorable first collegiate start saw Wilson nearly achieve the program's first triple-double with eight of her 10 rebounds on the defensive end and seven blocked shots to go with 16 points against NCAA Division I San Jose State on
Nov. 24. She highlighted the fourth quarter by blocking the Spartans on three straight possessions and would add two fouls drawn and one steal in the contest. Then, in an 68-53 win over Sonoma State on
Nov. 27, the Communications & Media Technologies major registered three more blocks plus four defensive rebounds.
Through six games of the 2021-22 season, Wilson ranks second in the PacWest both in rebounds per game (10.7) and blocks per game (2.2).
This is the second PacWest weekly honor for Academy of Art women's basketball this season (after
Joy Krupa's Nov. 22 selection) and the first in Wilson's career.
