SAN FRANCISCO – With its first cross country season in two years on the horizon, Academy of Art Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Kevin LaSure and his staff have announced the addition of
Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada/International School of Düsseldorf), an accomplished runner from Eastern Michigan.

"We are excited to have Owen joining us," LaSure said. "He brings much needed experience and talent to our cross country team and distance group on the track."
A four-year member of Eastern's cross country and track & field squads, Day was the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Freshman of the Year in 2017, then 2019 Second Team All-MAC, Distinguished Scholar, and Athlete and Academic All-MAC all in cross country that year. His best times in cross country came in 2019 when he went 15:34.6 at 5k, 24:48.3 at 8k, and 32:04.6 at 10k during NCAA Regionals. Many coming during the lead up to that season, his best indoor marks on the track were 1:50.77 at 800m, 2:29.10 at 1000m, 4:01.25 in the mile, and 8:12.95 at 3000m while his career outdoor times were 1:51.76 at 800m and 3:46.48 at 1500m. His most recent track & field campaign was highlighted by a third-place finish in the 800m at the Mid-American Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Prior to Eastern Michigan, Day attended International School of Düsseldorf where he posted times of 1:53 in the 800m and 3:44 in the 1500m as a senior. He was named the Ottawa Lions Junior Athlete MVP in 2013, while also claiming a total of four top-three OFSAA medals. Day also finished eighth in the 2016 German Cross Country Championships.
Entering the Academy of Art School of Animation & Visual Effects this fall, Day will pursue his future goal of becoming an animator and storyboarder.
