CLOSING TIME
The end has come for the Academy of Art women's soccer 2022 campaign, as ART U prepares to close the year with a pair of Southern California foes in Pacific West Conference action as the Urban Knights battle with No. 18 Point Loma on Thursday, Nov. 3 before celebrating the 2022 senior class on Nov. 5 against Concordia on Senior Day.

KICKOFF
Thursday's kickoff against the Sea Lions will be an early start, with action getting underway at 10 a.m. from Paul Goode Field. Meanwhile, the final contest of the year against the Eagles will be an afternoon matinee from CCSF Soccer Field, with the day's senior ceremony taking place around 10 minutes prior to kickoff at 1 p.m. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (Apple App StoreGoogle Play Store) and on Twitter & Instagramas well as "Like" the Urban Knights on Facebook for score updates, videos, and recaps.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to the match with Concordia, Academy of Art women's soccer will honor the contributions of five Urban Knights seniors who have spent their entire career with ART U in defender Avica Robings, midfielder Reyna Valencia, defender Britney Flint, forward Baylie Christensen, and forward Brooklyn Morera. Each of these five Urban Knights have recorded nearly 4,000 minutes of game action, highlighted by the potential for Flint to be just the second Urban Knight in history to surpass 6,000 minutes played in a career should she play all but seven minutes over the final two matches (first: Alyssa Rasmussen, 2017-21). Meanwhile, Robings and Valencia will become just the seventh and eighth Urban Knights to eclipse 5,000 career minutes. Beyond that, each of the five Knights will leave Academy of Art in at least three ART U career top-10 categories. Leading the way on that front is Morera as she currently resides in a total of 12 ART U career top-10's including goals and points, and she is one of just five Urban Knights to record 20 or more points and 10 or more goals in a career. Christensen appears behind Morera in many of the same categories, appearing in six ART U career lists including goals, points and assists.

KNIGHT WATCH
Alicia Calderon 11-2-22Despite dropping their recent two matches to Holy Names and Fresno Pacific, Academy of Art women's soccer saw positives in both matches, including a record-setting performance against FPU. Seeking offense while trailing against the Hawks, ART U saw a pair of firsts as a pair of defenders in Robings and Flint tallied their first goals of the season. The fifth goal of Robings' career came in unassisted fashion when she buried her shot attempt from near the edge of the box in the 75th minute, while Flint hit the scoresheet for the first time in her collegiate career in the 87th minute when she converted a free kick that was awarded after the Knights drew a penalty just outside the top of the 18' box.

Against the Sunbirds, a busy night in goal for freshman goalkeeper Alicia Calderon helped lead her to become a new record-holder, as her new season best of 16 saves pushed her to a total of 120 on the season to set the new ART U single-season mark. Additionally, her 16 saves in the match were once again the second-most in ART U single-game history, trailing only the 19 by Rachael Rempe against Notre Dame de Namur on Oct. 26, 2012, though it did top Calderon's own 15 saves against Azusa Pacific that at the time was her season high. Even more, the 16 saves were the most in a single game by a PacWest goalkeeper this season, as she holds the top three spots of that list by herself. Calderon has made at least five saves in all but two matches this season, making double-digit saves in a total of four matches, and she sits atop the PacWest in total saves and saves per game with a mark of 7.50.

Prior to last week, Academy of Art secured a 3-0 shutout victory over Lincoln University on Oct. 12 where Christensen became the 12th Urban Knight in program history to net a brace when she scored the first two goals of the match. Goal No. 1 of the season from Christensen came in the 41st minute, as she finished off a low cross from freshman midfielder Danielle Medellin after Medellin had worked her way through the attacking area up the right side of the pitch. It was déjà vu to start the second frame, as Medellin sent a cross through the air to the waiting Christensen, who used her head to send the ball past the Lincoln goalkeeper. ART U added one more tally for good measure from the boot of freshman midfielder Natalia Cruz when she scored her first Academy of Art goal in the 81st minute, all started by Flint playing a ball forward to redshirt sophomore forward Hannah Moore to set up an attacking opportunity up the right side of the pitch. Moore then sent a cross into the middle, finding Cruz for the day's final marker.

Scoring her second goal of the season in the 2-1 defeat against Holy Names on Sept. 21 was Moore, as she was the recipient of a pass to the top of the box by sophomore defender Halldóra Einarsdóttir after Einarsdóttir generated a defensive take away from my goal kick. Moore's strike into the top of the net joins her unassisted tally back in the match with UC Santa Cruz as the first two markers of her ART U career, ties her for for the team lead in goals along with Christensen, and also gave Einarsdóttir the first point in her collegiate career.

PUSHING POINT LOMA
Named the No. 18 ranked team in all of NCAA Division II and second in the PacWest standings, Point Loma enters the matchup with an overall record of 10-2-4 after a pair of draws and a victory in their last three times on the pitch. Currently the Sea Lions are tied for the second-most goals (30), second-highest scoring average (1.88), and second-best scoring margin (+0.88), though the do allow an opponent's average of 1.00 goal per game. Three Sea Lions in total have tallied 10 or more points on the year led by the 17 of Alana Diaz, sitting with a current total of seven goals and three assists, while Zoe Crockett trails shortly behind with a total of 12 points. Expected to be in goal is Julia Pinnell, as she has recorded 37 saves on the year with a .712 save percentage. Point Loma holds the decisive edge over Academy of Art in the all-time series, leading 8-0-1.

FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDIA
Just behind Point Loma in the PacWest standings is Concordia, sitting third overall after winning four of their past five matches including a 1-0 win over Chaminade on their Senior Day. Much like the standings, Concordia's offense ranks just behind PLNU in the PacWest table, though it remains in the top half with a total of 27 goals scored for an average of 1.69 per game. The duo of Jadenn Carrillo and Riley Walkington are tied for the team lead with 17 points each, tied for fourth-most in the conference, with Walkington holding the lead in goals (seven to six) while Carrillo leads the way in assists (five to three). Expected to be between the posts is Riley Urquiza, playing in 16 matches while making a total of 44 saves with a .786 save percentage. With only six meetings between CUI and ART U in the all-time matchup, Concordia holds the edge by a 5-0-1 margin.

CALDERON SETS ART U SAVES RECORD IN DEFEAT
A busy night in goal for Academy of Art women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Alicia Calderon helped lead her to become a new record-holder, as her season-best of 16 saves pushed her to 120 on the season to set the new ART U single-season mark. However, the offense from Fresno Pacific was too much to contain as FPU scored three times in the first half with two more in the second for a 5-0 Pacific West Conference win on Thursday.
