SAN FRANCISCO – Strengthening the team with its first recruit toward the 2022-23 season, Academy of Art women's tennis Head Coach
Clarisse Baca has announced the addition of Jessica Plazas (Bogota, Colombia/Colegia Virtual Siglo XXI), a talented tennis player and future enrollee in the School of Acting this fall.

"To be passionate about acting and tennis, it's very special," Baca said. "When Jessica emailed me about her desired to become part of the team, I jumped right in without any hesitation. Since day one, she knew what she wanted and her ambitions to become an actress and a collegiate national champion. Based on her junior and professional career results, Jessica will be one of the best recruits that our program has ever seen and we are excited to help her accomplish her goals on and off the court."
Plazas will be a true freshman when she departs Bogota, Colombia for San Francisco to join the program later this year. Sporting a doubles Universal Tennis Rating of 10.25 and a singles UTR of 9.51, Plazas carries highest Women's Tennis Association rankings of 619 in doubles and 826 in singles. She made her WTA main draw debut at the 2018 Copa Colsanitas in the doubles draw partnering María Camila Osorio Serrano and most recently had two of her best finishes, both second-place doubles results, with Fernanda Astete at W15 Cundinamarca and with Maria Paulina Perez-Garcia at W25 Lima.
Upon her arrival to Academy of Art, Plazas will enroll in the School of Acting, with hopes of one day winning an Oscar.
