PacWest Weekly Awards (Jan. 23)
IRVINE, Calif. – Collecting her third Pacific West Conference weekly award in the last three announcements, Academy of Art women's basketball sophomore forward/center
Alisha Wilson was named PacWest Defender of the Week more dominance rebounding, causing turnovers, and defending the rim. Wilson averaged 13.0 defensive rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game in the Urban Knights' first week back after starting 2023 in Hawaii. The award is for games played from Jan. 16-22.
It was a memorable first home game of 2023 for Wilson who added to her double-double streak with a 14 defensive rebounds, three blocks, and three steals to go with her 10th double-double of the season versus Concordia on
Jan. 19. Two days later against Point Loma on
Jan. 21, the Communications & Media Technologies major was at it again, grabbing 12 rebounds on the defensive end while adding two steals (her 10th game with multiple thefts). The double-double in that contest was her ninth straight, 11th of the season, and 25th of her career, bringing her ever closer to the ART U career record (27).
On the year, Wilson's 11 double-doubles rank first in the PacWest (eighth in NCAA Division II) while her conference-leading 13.4 rebounds per game are third in NCAA DII. She is also fourth in the PacWest in blocks (1.2) and fifth in steals per game (2.2).
This is the third PacWest weekly honor for Wilson this season after she was named Defender of the Week on
Jan. 4 and Player of the Week on
Jan. 16. It is her fifth career weekly award and her first time as Player of the Week.
