2023 Penguin Invitational Results

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Competing in doubles and singles action against two Pacific West Conference opponents and one member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Academy of Art women's tennis wrapped up two days of competing in the Penguin Invitational as the final day was rained out at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.

On the first day of the tournament, two sets of ART U doubles teams came out victorious against Fresno Pacific, as junior Paulina Alvarez and senior Viktoria Leth defeated Fresno Pacific 9-8 (8-6) while freshman Georgiana Parr and junior Maria Vittoria Casucci also took down the Sunbirds 8-6. Junior Erica Hellbe and freshman Amelija Supulniece dropped a close match, with FPU taking the win against the duo 8-6.

In singles action on the first day, ART U would be set up against Dominican, taking two victories in the process. Leth would also take a win in singles on Friday in a competitive comeback 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 10-5 and Parr picked up one as well 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

On what turned out to be the last day of action due to weather, the same results would come out of the doubles pairs, with Alvarez and Leth taking a match 8-2 against Dominican in addition to Parr and Casucci winning 8-3.

The Urban Knights would take two victories against Stanislaus State on Saturday, with Supelniece securing one over the CCAA contender's Annabelle Mulick 6-2, 6-2, and Leth taking down Emma Yu 6-3, 6-2. Leth emerged from the tournament undefeated, winning all four matches she competed in (two doubles and two singles).

Academy of Art will compete one more time in the fall season, as they will head over to Timothy Korth Tennis Complex next weekend in Moraga, Calif. to battle in the Saint Mary's Invitational.
