KNIGHT WATCH
Academy of Art women's soccer will kick off their next stretch battling a Northern California school, their first in five matches and additionally the time the squad saw freshman defender Mia Gonzalez put one between the posts off a header on Sept. 25. While Gonzalez leads the squad in points, junior forward
Danielle Medellin ranks just one spot back with an assist, while she also holds the second most shots on the squad (8), only behind sophomore forward
Jade Alverio (12). Graduate student goalkeeper
Nicole Peoples not only ranks the highest amongst all Pacific West Conference goalkeepers in saves per game with her 8.13 average, put ranks the fifth highest in saves (first in total saves) all while she chases the 200 saves mark for her career, as she just needs nine more to get there.
DANCING WITH DOMINICAN
On a cold streak are the Penguins as they've dropped four of their last five, and as they are most recently coming off a home 1-0 loss against Biola. Headed into their match with ART U, Dominican holds a 4-6-1 record while being just 1-4 in conference play, with their lone PacWest victory coming from their match with Hawaii Pacific where they took a 1-0 victory. Megan Clapinski holds the most points on the squad (6), as she is one of 10 Penguins who hold a point in 2024. Natalie Haro has done the majority of the work in net with her 11 starts, as she currently holds a .757 save percentage giving up nine goals with 28 saves, all while containing a 1.00 goal against average, sixth best in the conference. DUC has gotten the better of the Knights all-time, as they lead the series 14-6-3.
SUP SUNBIRDS
Next on the agenda for Fresno Pacific is coming to ART U as they're looking for their first win since Sept. 26, most recently dropping three Southern California matches to Azusa Pacific, Concordia, and Westmont. The 2-5-2 overall and 1-3 in conference Sunbird team is led by Gizelle Aguirre as she's scored on two occasions to total four points. Monique Nevarez has been in goal for FPU all season, making 42 saves with eight goals against, with a goal against average of .89. The Sunbirds have a 14-1-1 record in the all-time series.
OUTSHINING OAKLANDERS
Their 12th match of the season for the Oaklanders will be faced against Academy of Art as the squad has faced schools like UC Santa Cruz, Cal Maritime, and Fresno Pacific earlier this season. Dating back to Lincoln's previous matches with ART U, it was the Knights that came out on top both times as they took the matches with a 3-0 final score each time in 2022 and
2023.
MEETING UP WITH MENLO
Menlo's introduction to the PacWest Conference has been a rude awakening for the Oaks, as they hold a 0-8-2 record overall while having a 0-5-1 record in conference, currently on a three-match losing streak after they got swept in their Hawaii trip. Playing Dominican and Cal Maritime before ART U, the Oaks have a trio that lead the team in points (2) in Kaylin Gonzalez, Brynn McClymond, and Olivia Parlato. Giorgia Melcore has seen most of the work between the posts, as she has given up 20 scores on her team while saving 63 shots, collecting a .759 save percentage. The upcoming match will be the first match played between the two teams.
WOMEN'S SOCCER WATCHES LATE GOALS FROM EAGLES STEAL MATCH
While Academy of Art women's soccer kept Biola off the scoreboard for nearly 70 minutes, ART U could not keep up with the Eagles on Oct. 10 as a duo of late second half goals powered BU to a 2-0 victory.
LOOKING AHEAD
After the quartet the Knights will head out to compete with Jessup on Oct. 30 before returning home for the rest of the 2024 regular season to host Westmont, Azusa Pacific, and Point Loma.
