FRESNO, Calif. – In the second match of the weekend, Academy of Art women's tennis squared up with No. 17 Point Loma on Saturday before weather halted the result despite the Urban Knights leading 3-1 at the time.

As doubles action started the day, the Knights were down after the first pairing finished, but tied it up as sophomore Jessica Plazas and freshman Estelle Najean put down Amanda Letzring and Quin Brady 6-3 on Court 2. In the last doubles match on Court 1, freshman Amelija Supulniece and junior Erica Hellbe, No. 24 nationally in doubles, squeaked out the clinch over Thelma Sepulveda and Arianna Audelo, No. 29 nationally in doubles, with a 7-6 (10-8) score to put ART U up 1-0 headed into singles play. 

After the Sea Lions would score a point on Court 2 by opponent retirement, the Knights would rise once again, starting with Plazas earning her second win of the day, taking down Sepulveda, No. 12 in the region, on Court 3 in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 score. Supulniece would follow right behind, defeating Letzring, No. 5 in the region, 7-5, 6-3 on Court 1 to give the Knights their 3-1 lead. With three other courts left to finish, senior Viktoria Leth, freshman Georgiana Parr, and Najean were unable to complete their matches against their respective opponents, and their contests were left unfinished. 

The Knights will now head to Florida for a three-part road trip and will start it off against No. 14 Tampa on Tuesday, Mar. 26 at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT) at the Naimoli & Young Family Tennis Complex.
