HOME OPENER HOORAH

SF Glens at Treasure Island Field will see the Academy of Art men's soccer squad play a match as the team for the first time as ART U is set to host for their home opener this Saturday, Sept. 10 against MSU Denver.

KICKOFF
ART U will play their first home match bright and early, as kickoff with MSU Denver is set for 10 a.m. on Treasure Island. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) and on Twitter & Instagram, as well as "Like" the Urban Knights on Facebook for score updates, videos, and recaps.

KNIGHT WATCH
After a 3-1 result in the opposing squad's favor, ART U will enter their match with MSU Denver with an 0-1 record. Early into the season, redshirt junior forward Elvis Mensah is the lone scorer for the Knights, as he slotted one away against Cal State Monterey Bay in the 82nd minute off a senior defender Chris Stokes assist across the box. Stokes sent the ball over towards the far post for an easy tap-in after he collected it from a huge sideline throw-in by senior defender Elijah Cofer. Freshman midfielder Keita Goto, freshman midfielder Andrea Mercanti, redshirt freshman forward Audie Garza, and Stokes would all each get off a shot in the match, but couldn't guide them into the back of the net.

In his Knight debut, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Florian Grollmann recorded six saves that contributed towards his .667 save percentage.

DANCING WITH (MSU) DENVER
In the first two matches of their season, MSU Denver started with a 1-1 record after battling with No. 8 Midwestern State and West Texas A&M. Going back and forth with MSU, the Roadrunners offense did all they could by putting up three goals on the board for their team, but eventually lost the battle 5-3. In their first win of the season, they took down WTAMU 2-0.

All five goals from the Roadrunners have come from different scorers, with Parker Landry leading the team in assists (2). Six different Roadrunners lead the team in points (2), with 24 shots amongst the team in total as Brendan O'Toole holds the most thus far (5). Nick McNeil, MSU Denver's starting goalkeeper for the last two matches, has nine saves so far this season, as he's given up five goals on 25 shots faced.

OTTERS SPOIL URBAN KNIGHTS' SEASON DEBUT IN 3-1 FINISH
Academy of Art men's soccer took on Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 5 in their first match of their 2024 campaign, and despite having a new-look to their starting roster with seven new members, the Urban Knights dropped the match to the Otters 3-1.

LOOKING AHEAD
After the match with MSU Denver, the Knights will travel to Texas where they will play in matches against St. Mary's (Tex.) on Sept. 19 and St. Edward's on Sept. 21 before hosting Stanislaus State on Sept. 25.
