KNIGHT WATCH

Academy of Art's nine overall wins (seventh-most in PacWest) have included victories over SF State (
Nov. 8), Cal State Monterey Bay (
Nov. 9), Cal Maritime (
Nov. 12), Stanislaus State (
Nov. 16), Sonoma State (
Nov. 21), UC Merced (
Dec. 1), Chaminade (
Dec. 21), Jessup (
Jan. 8), and Lincoln (Calif.) (
Jan. 11) thus far in their 2024-25 season. The Knights remain atop the conference in terms of lowest opponent field goal percentage (.348) while also ranking third in both assists (13.3) and offensive rebounds per game (12.6).
Now with its active streak of having at least seven different players score up to 18 games (24 straight dating back to the end of last year), ART U continues to look to senior forward
Yasmine Sifaoui as its leading scorer at 10.1 points per game (22nd in PacWest) with the conference's third-highest field goal percentage (.487). In support of that scoring average, junior guard
Alba Rovira Ayuso (8.4), senior forward/center
Christy Ojide Boiko (7.8), redshirt freshman guard
Karereatua Williams (6.9), sophomore guards
Lucia Revenga and
Maddie Morrow (both 6.2), and sophomore guard
Anna Fornells (5.6) are all putting in more than 5.0 points per contest.
Along with her 5.9 rebounds per game (14th in PacWest), Ojide Boiko joins freshman forward
Keira Mitchell among the conference's top 10 in blocks per game, combining for more than 2.0 per outing. Ojide Boiko's 572 career rebounds have tied her for third spot in Academy of Art history while her 331 defensive boards now rank fifth overall. Other ART U leaders in the PacWest are Revenga at 2.6 assists per game (10th) and Fornells with 1.7 steals per contest (11th).
A HILO HELLO
With one PacWest victory, a 74-64 win over Concordia on Jan. 2, through its first 10 games, UH Hilo has dropped seven straight and returns home after most recently falling to Azusa Pacific, Vanguard, Concordia, and Point Loma in a tour of Southern California. The Vulcans have looked to Caiyle Kaupu and her 16.0 points per game (fifth in PacWest) on a .494 field goal percentage (second in PacWest) as their main source of offense thus far. UH Hilo and ART U have consistently see-sawed throughout their 24 previous meetings, evening out at 12-12 to date.
CHECKING ON CHAMINADE
After falling to Academy of Art 67-66 in overtime on
Dec. 21, Chaminade has gone 3-6 with wins over Westmont, Biola, and Concordia as well as losses to Vanguard, Azusa Pacific, Fresno Pacific, Point Loma, BU, and Westmont most recently. CUH holds a 5-9 conference record (ninth) will host Dominican two days prior to rematching ART U. For a Silverswords team that ranks third in the PacWest in rebounds per game (41.1), Kali Jones ranks fifth individually in rebounds per contest (8.3) while Sameera Elmasri checks in at second in the conference in scoring at 17.7 points per game. The victory earlier this season was the seventh straight for the Knights who now lead Chaminade 24-3 in the historical matchup.
CONSISTENT QUARTERS HELP MENLO PAST URBAN KNIGHTS
Though just three points separated the Pacific West Conference teams late in the first quarter after a 5-0 run by Academy of Art women's basketball, Menlo remained in control over the ensuing frames toward a 64-42 victory on
Jan. 25 inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion.
LOOKING AHEAD
ART U will return to the mainland next week for a three-part homestand that first features Dominican on Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. and is followed by Women's Empowerment Day with Menlo in town at 1 p.m. on Feb. 8.
