PacWest Weekly Awards (Feb. 24)
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior forward
Robbie Armbrester of Academy of Art men's basketball was named the Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week as the team went 2-0 which included two PacWest victories against Dominican on
Feb. 17 and Hawaii Pacific on
Feb. 20. The award is for games played from Feb. 17 - Feb. 23.
Armbrester was in a defensive category of his own this past week, as the native of Atlanta collected eight steals total while averaging 7.5 rebounds per game. The two four-steal games for Armbrester mark three straight as the forward collected five in a game last week against Westmont on
Feb. 15. The Communications & Media Technologies major's defense also contributed towards giving up the fourth-fewest points in a game in program history, as the Urban Knights held HPU to only 49 points.
"Robbie had a great week on the defensive end of the floor," said Head Coach
Scott Waterman. "His eight steals were critical to our defensive success and allowed our offense to get out and run. He is a great on-ball defender and we need him to continue to be a presence throughout the rest of the season."
This is the first PacWest honor for Armbrester in his career, while it is the fourth for ART U this season with senior forward
Quintin Metcalf earning two PacWest Player of the Week awards on
Dec. 2 and
Dec. 23 and senior forward
Isaiah Williams securing PacWest Defender of the Week on
Jan. 6.
